The Lookout

Sometimes instead of digging down, we have to build up. Our project at bear mountain features the installation of a Verti Block Retaining Wall 800 Feet long and 60 Feet high!

Bear Mountain Site

Named "The Lookout" because the apartment buildings going up will perch on the side of the mountain overlooking Florence Lake.

In the beginning

Looking from the far left all the way down the site we can see what the site looked like in the beginning when work on the wall had just begun.

Step by step

The wall goes up slowly using terraces. Each block must be cut, placed and aligned very carefully to ensure a true straight wall. Any deviation can mean a lean!

Mountains of fill

To build up a wall so high, we have to bring in tons of soil to backfill and help anchor the wall!

Installing Geogrid

In order to anchor in the wall and keep it from toppling over, we use geogrid as we build. Laying down the black mat and then installing anchors with ties to the bedrock keeps the soil in place and the wall upright!
